Connecting to Edify in Construct

Connecting Construct directly to Edify lets you automate reporting, blend Edify data with other institutional data sources, and build repeatable workflows without exporting files. Once configured, the connection can be reused across multiple workflows, making it easy to refresh analyses as your Edify data is updated. This article walks through steps to connect Construct directly to your Edify Database.

Prerequisites

Before creating an Edify connection, ensure you have the PostgreSQL ODBC Driver installed on your computer. If the PostgreSQL ODBC Driver is not installed, the Edify connection type will not appear in Construct.

Download the PostgreSQL ODBC Driver from:
https://odbc.postgresql.org/

Create the Connection in Construct

1. Open Construct and click the blue plus sign to create a New Connection.
2. Select EAB Edify Analytics DB as the Data Source.
3. Log in to Edify and go to the question mark in the upper right corner of the home page. Then select User Profile.
4. These are the credentials you will use for the connection in Construct. The Host, Port, Username, Password, and DBName will correspond to the Host, Port, Username, Password and Database in the Construct connection.
5. The Table Schema can be left as is and the Connection Name can be updated to be more descriptive or left as is.
6. Click the Test button. If the connection succeeds, click Save and the connection is complete. If the connection cannot authenticate the password, try Generating New Credentials in Edify.

Password Expiration

Edify Database Credentials expire every 7 days.

When the password expires:

1. Return to User Profile > Database Credentials.
2. Click Generate New Credentials.
3. Copy the new password.
4. Update the password stored in your Construct connection.
5. Test and save the connection.

Note: Generating new credentials replaces the previous password. Any existing Construct connections using the old password must be updated.

Using the Connection

Once connected, the Edify connection behaves like any other database connection in Construct.

You can:

• Browse available schemas and tables
• Read data directly from Edify
• Join Edify data with other sources
• Build repeatable workflows
• Refresh analyses as new data becomes available

No data needs to be exported from Edify before it can be used in Construct.

Troubleshooting

Edify Does Not Appear as a Connection Type

Verify that:

• The PostgreSQL ODBC Driver is installed.
• Construct has been restarted.
• For Construct Enterprise, the driver is installed on the server running the Construct service.

Password Authentication Failed

A password authentication failed error almost always indicates that the Edify password has expired.

Generate new credentials in Edify, update the password in Construct, and test the connection again.

Unable to See Expected Tables

Construct only displays the tables your Edify account has permission to access.

If expected tables are missing, contact your Edify administrator or Strategic Leader to verify your permissions.
