FAQs
How do I create a file backup of my jobs and connections?
The content and structure of the Construct Workspace may be backed up and restored to guard against catastrophic loss. All jobs, connections, settings, and schedules are saved when a backup is created. To backup your workspace, go to File > Database > Backup from the main toolbar and save the .vcb file (Veera Construct Backup) to an accessible location.
Note: It is strongly recommended to get in the habit of creating backups at least once a month or more while working on important projects as good practice and to guard against catastrophic loss.
How do I use the files from my file backup?
To restore a previously backed up version of Construct, select File > Database > Restore from the main toolbar and navigate to the location of the .vcb (Veera Construct Backup) file.
Restoring a backup can be used to transfer jobs to colleagues, migrate content if you are switching to a new machine, or restore your work in case of a catastrophic loss. Backup files contain configurations for jobs, connections, settings and schedules.
Important: It should be noted that restoring a backup will overwrite and remove any current content or configurations within the software.
Troubleshooting
Recovering work after a computer crash
If your computer crashes or the app crashes, Construct has an auto-recovery system that takes an image of your data every five minutes by default. This saves all jobs and configurations to this location C:\ProgramData\Rapid Insight Inc\Veera Construct. If your system catastrophically crashes, upon reopening the software you will have the opportunity to restore any unsaved jobs to the last auto-saved version.
To access and configure this feature, go to Tools > Options > Recovery from the main toolbar.
As a backup plan for potential catastrophic failure, consider creating routine backup files (see above) and storing them on a network drive or external drive.
The Workspace Tab is missing
The Workspace Tab may have been closed inadvertently, or might simply be off-screen if there are many other job tabs open. To restore the Workspace tab, select Window > Workspace from the main toolbar.
The Construct application is running but I don't see the program window
If the Construct icon shows as running in the Windows taskbar, but the program window won't appear on your screen, it is most likely the case that the window is open but is displaying off-screen. This most often happens when switching display output settings or disconnecting a laptop from a docking station with multiple monitors.
There are a few tricks to try to correct this:
- Hold Shift, then right-click on the Construct program icon on your Windows taskbar. Select Restore from the menu to restore the window to the current screen.
- Hold Shift, then right-click on the Construct program icon on your Windows taskbar. Select Move from the menu, then use your arrow keys to move the program into view.
- Right-click in the general space on the Windows taskbar and select Cascade windows. All programs you have open will then show stacked in the center of your monitor and you can arrange them as desired.
Resizing windows and returning to default settings
Occasionally, windows can become resized in a way that is hard to find or hard to work with, especially when working on a computer with multiple monitors.
To return all windows to their default sizing in Construct, go to Tools > Options > Display > Reset All Window Sizes to Defaults from the main toolbar.
To return all windows to their default sizing in Predict, go to View > Reset Layout from the main toolbar.
