Introduction
Construct Enterprise is comprised of two main components – the Construct Enterprise Server and the Construct Enterprise Client. These are placed on separate machines occupying the same domain of a local area network (LAN).
Construct Enterprise Server
The Construct Enterprise Server (or Enterprise Server) component is the workhorse of an Enterprise installation. This component runs on its host computer as a service rather than an application. This means that, unless intentionally stopped, the Construct Enterprise Server is invisibly running whenever its computer is running. For more information on Construct as a Service, click here.
Multiple Construct Enterprise Clients can connect to the same Construct Enterprise Server, as long as it’s on the same network domain. The Construct Enterprise Server is also the keeper of all data processing “jobs” Enterprise Client users create, all data source references/pointers their jobs rely upon, and performs all of the computations required by these jobs to produce their results. These three characteristics of the Enterprise Server provide the advantages of a Enterprise Client installation – easily sharing jobs between users and the ability to schedule jobs to run without the Enterprise Client component even being on.
Construct Enterprise Client
Construct Enterprise Clients (or Enterprise Clients) are installed directly onto users’ computers. They interact with an Enterprise Server, passing the commands it needs to perform all of Construct’s actions on their behalf. The Client locally stores several custom settings unique to its user.
Construct Enterprise Manager
The Construct Enterprise Manager is a stand-alone utility delivered with the Construct Enterprise system. It is located on the same machine that the server is installed on or the "server machine". This utility provides access to the service running on the server machine, license information, log files, user management, database backups, job sharing and more.
Main Tab
The Main tab of the manager is where Admin Users can:
- Access error logs
- Access licensing information
- Check for product updates
- Create backups for multiple users
- Restore Construct Enterprise from a backup
- Recover lost work
Service Commands Tab
Construct Enterprise runs as a service on the server machine. This allows for features like automation to take place without the need for the client's machine to be signed on.
The Service Commands tab is where Admin users can check their connection to the Rapid Insight license server, start and stop the service, manage the connection of other Construct Enterprise clients to the Construct Enterprise Server, and share permissions to client folders.
Firewall exceptions can be established on this tab and server ports can be changed here.
Users Tab
The Users tab allows Admin users to setup user access through their Windows system credentials or dedicated Rapid Insight credentials. This tab is also used to change user's application authenticated passwords.
Server Folders Tab
The Server Folders tab manages the system and network resources that are made available to Enterprise users. The yellow sticky note in the upper right corner of the Server Folders tab can be used to add folders.
Add - Browse to a folder location to add to the list
Add Manually - Enter a path or folder alias to add to the list
Remove Section - Remove selected folder
Jobs Tab
The Jobs tab allows Admin users to migrate jobs between clients as well as import individual legacy jobs from a Construct backup, or a Construct Pro backup.
Other Tab
The Other tab allows Admin users to select which version of the .NET Managed Driver used for Oracle database connections should be used throughout the clients.
Note: The Service may need to be restarted for any changes made in the Enterprise Manager to take effect.
