About: This article explains how to use the Output node in Construct to create Tableau .hyper files and publish data to Tableau Cloud or Tableau Server.
Location: Output Node
Overview
Use the Output node to create Tableau Hyper extract files or publish Construct data to Tableau Cloud or Tableau Server.
Important: Beginning with version 5.3.26301.0, Construct automatically replaces former Tableau nodes—TDE Output, TDE Publish, and Tableau Online—with Output nodes. The converted nodes use the Tableau Hyper or Tableau Extract Publisher Output Type.
Before You Begin
You will need:
- The Tableau data providers installed on the computer that will run the job (see below).
- For Tableau Cloud or Tableau Server, a Tableau personal access token with permission to publish to the destination project.
- The URL, site name, and project name for your Tableau environment.
Tableau Data Providers
To make use of the Tableau Output Types in the Output node, first install the Tableau data providers. The Tableau data providers are available from the Rapid Insight Collaborative Cloud (RICC).
- From the toolbar, select RI CC > Browse RI Collaborative Cloud.
- Search for Tableau.
- Open Tableau ADO.NET data providers by RapidInsight.
- Accept the Terms & Conditions, and then select Download.
- Construct places the provider files in C:\ProgramData\Rapid Insight Inc\AdoDotNetProviders automatically.
- Close and reopen Construct. If you are using Construct Pro or Construct Enterprise, restart the Construct Service.
Troubleshooting
Existing jobs that use the former Tableau nodes
When you open an existing job after updating Construct, each former Tableau node automatically converts to an Output node with equivalent functionality. You do not need to rebuild the node.
If the converted node does not run, confirm that the Tableau data providers are installed. Then reopen the job, review the converted node’s settings, and run the job to validate the output before returning it to production.
The Tableau output options do not appear
Confirm that the Tableau data providers are installed. You can download them from RICC. After installation, close and reopen Construct, or restart the Construct service.
